Our Team

Chanelle Michael

Director

It was the World Series cricket of the 1970s that gave Chanelle her first taste of working with numbers. Aged younger than 10, she used to love sitting on a bean bag in front of the TV, her cricket-loving Dad nearby, and ‘crunch the numbers’. With a calculator in hand, Chanelle would work out the game stats, long before these figures would become the staple of sports reporting that they are today. Her Dad would toss her a question and she would come up with the answer!

Throughout her school and university life, Chanelle’s passion was always numbers and it was somewhat inevitable that she would embark on a career as an accountant. Today, she truly loves her job and has a keen interest in taxation. Her tax knowledge is extensive as she makes a point of keeping abreast of changes in legislation. She gets enormous satisfaction out of helping clients take the greatest advantage of tax minimisation opportunities while, of course, also fulfilling their responsibilities.

Another of Chanelle’s strengths is being able to identify weaknesses in business. Her forte is business advisory, helping people to grow their businesses. She takes the time to get to know them and find out what drives them to succeed. She identifies areas for improvement in terms of finances and accounting procedures, looks at aspects like gross profit margin, operating costs and structures and formulates a plan. Clients have been thoroughly impressed at her ability to help ‘turn things around’ for them.

Chanelle is originally a Cairns girl. She began her career with PWC and later joined a few smaller firms. In 2013, she moved to Brisbane, following her children. She saw opportunity and purchased an existing inner city firm, providing a strong platform for the growth of her business.  She now leads Accounting & Business Services QLD Pty Ltd and provides its clients with exceptional service and provides business-clients with advice to optimise and grow their business.

Matthew Harm

Accountant

Always ready with a smile, Matthew is a cheerful soul who has serious respect for numbers, but he’s so much more than that. He loves a good business idea, gets very passionate about side hustles and is always into the latest tech. Clients find his enthusiasm for accounting tech infectious and through his demonstrations, quickly feel comfortable and familiar with the various software packages. Matthew enjoys bouncing around ideas on income-generating activities and is patient and friendly when dealing with clients, such as showing them how to simplify their business administrative work.

Born and raised on the Gold Coast, Matthew completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Law at Griffith University where he also met his wife. Together, they have climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and trekked around the base of Uluru. They now live together with their beautiful son on Brisbane’s southside.

Matthew confesses that he has the skills (and willingness) to dance both the Macarena and the Nutbush. He has a fairly large repertoire of Dad jokes and on weekends, enjoys spending time with his family.

Sarita Dutoit

Administrative Manager

Sydney-born Sarita is ABSQ’s ‘front line’ person. She’s the person who answers the phones when you call and provides the first level of assistance when someone calls with a question. Not your average secretary, Sarita has an Accounts background so she has a great understanding of clients’ needs. Clients enjoy her warm, friendly manner and know they can always count on her to follow through with enquiries.

Although she was born in Sydney and only recently moved to Queensland from regional New South Wales, Sarita now barracks for Queensland in the State of Origin. Having spent nine years in the country, she was ready for a change and is loving city life. She certainly doesn’t miss Armidale’s chilly winters! Around the time of World Expo 88, she lived in Brisbane and worked at the Brekky Creek Hotel as a bartender.

One of Sarita’s hobbies is fitness. She ran the 4.5km course in the 2019 Mother’s Day Classic fun run at Southbank and clocked up a very respectable time of 31.26.

Sarita thoroughly enjoys working with Chanelle and Matthew at ABSQ, keeping the files and diary organised and liaising with all the wonderful clients.

While we’re based in the Sunshine State, our services are available to businesses right across Australia.
